  1. Automatic two-way sync to Dropbox

Right now there is a manual, one-way backup to Dropbox, as I understand it. And a two-way sync is planned? Can this be automatic and seamless? Sometimes edits are easier to make with other programs (e.g. images) - it would be great if WriteLaTeX could periodically check for updates from Dropbox as well. Thanks!

      • if you can interface this with google docs, that way we can use our google drive, that would be amazing.

Google docs is an amazing tool and if you can integrate this great tool with google docs. A lot of people will love to use it.

        • Higher preview resolution

Editing on a 1920-wide screen, I'd love to get more than current ~800 pixels in the preview. (People with Retina macbook or Nexus 10 even more so)
Of course it costs server cpu & bandwidth — I'm willing to trade off compile frequency for resolution. Best of all would be fast & blurry when editing a lot, auto-upgrading themselves to higher resolution after some time (e.g. by progressive jpegs). Consider a user reading for a hour without editing — huge win/cost!

P.S. Using pdf.js would of course solve this but I compared yesterday with Sharelatex & Spandex and was surprised…

Update: We recently added a pdf.js preview option that you can select from your project’s settings (gear in the top right). It’s still in beta, but do give it a try!

Options for higher resolution image previews are also being considered, so continue to let us know if that’s what you want!

          • Display structure panel

Add third (hide/expand) panel to the left of source code panel showing structure of the source file based on sectioning tags.
Clicking on the chapter / (sub)section visible in that panel would bring you to according line in the source code.
This would help navigating through more complex source files, especially because there is no distinction in syntax colouring between different levels of structure (which would also be a nice thing).
            TIA

            • hard wrap text in the editor

It would be nice if the editor would hard wrap the text after a (configurable) textwidth.

I usually edit text in vim in a terminal, but downloading a .tex file edited in writelatex has very long lines of text that I then have to reformat.

What is the license of writeLATEX? Can I get the source-code to run it locally?
Could you display at least the license of writeLATEX on its homepage?

                • Access to history

Other online Latex services (like scribTeX.com ShareLaTeX.com or ) allow the user to access the history of each file or accessing the project like a git repository.
It is simply comforting to know that there is any possibility to recover earlier versions of my project resp. files.

I know, the other services have much more complex user interfaces. And the simplicity of this service is what I like at most.
but maybe you will find a method to keep this UI simple while introducing some kind history management.

                    • Add a chat window like capability so that two people working on the same document can pass ideas back and forth

I'm editing a large document with a co-author however the latter in the evening it gets the less we want to speak on the phone since we both have families. I would suggest having a basic chat function if possible, perhaps at the bottom of the editor in a new frame, or tie in something like google messenger.

                      • Implement markdown with pandoc extensions

Pandoc (http://johnmacfarlane.net/pandoc/) provides a way to convert markdown, with LaTeX formulas, into LaTeX; it should be trivial to implement using it. Markdown format would be very convenient for sharing quick ideas and notes among mathematicians, as opposed to full papers.

                        • synchronize with github repository

                          Hi,

I think it would be a good idea to keep writeLaTeX files synchronized with GitHub repositories. At least, if there is anything changed in the GitHub repo, writeLaTeX should pop up a reminder, and vice verse. Thanks for considering.

The arrow keys on a bluetooth keyboard don't work when using writeLatex on iPad. This makes it much harder to use writeLatex for iPad and adding the functionality should make the experience much more pleasant.

                              • latexdiff

Provide support for running latexdiff (http://www.ctan.org/pkg/latexdiff) between two versions of a manuscript.

Many journals, after returning manuscripts to authors with comments from reviewers, ask for a marked up version of a manuscript showing tracked changes. I've always used latexdiff to generate these marked up PDFs.

It would be nice if writeLatex could add support for running latexdiff between two versions of a manuscript.

                                • enable off-line updating

It would be great if you could keep synced a local copy of the project to be able to work even when you are not on the internet.
At least you should have the possibility of dowloading the latest version manually and upload it again next time you are back on writelatex.
                                  Great work, Enrico

                                  • Each document should have a shareable link directly to freshly compiled pdf without source view

At the moment, each document has two shareable links: one leads to an editable view, the other to a read-only version of source and compiled document. But sometimes you only want to give someone access to the (continually updated) pdf/compiled version of the doc. For people who don't need or want to see the source. My suggestion is to add a third shareable link; one which leads directly to a pdf file (compiled fresh from the current source) and nothing else.

This is different from sharing on figleaf as you may want to share a window to work-in-progress as it…

                                    • highlight input of different authors as Etherpad does

Thumbs up for your idea and the current status.
To make it really useful in collaborative editing it would be nice to have the original highlighting of Etherpad to see who wrote what.

                                      • Create native mobile and desktop apps

Even it the writeLaTeX editor is usable in mobile browsers, but it is far from perfect. With native mobile apps for Android and iOS you maybe could render the preview and/or math formulas in rich text view (instead of MathJax) locally, which would make it much faster. And you could provide extra keyboard buttons, so that it is easier to type symbols like \[]{}()&, etc. used often in LaTeX.
Local rendering would of course also speed up desktop apps.

Are there plans to add code folding functionality?
