  1. Shortcut to insert \item

A shortcut to quickly add '\item' at the beginning when create a new line, for example shift+enter.

  2. Allow hierarchical organisation of projects

Some projects involve multiple documents relying on some of the same source files - for instance a grant proposal involving several documents in the same style and with a shared bib file. It would be good to have a hiearchical organisation of projects and subprojects in both the projects view and the left bar.

  3. Commit the PDF along the files in GIT.

    Hello folks,

I would like OverLeaf to be able to commit the latest generated PDF along the files in the GIT commits.
    Is this conceivable?

  4. Show section numbers in rich text mode.

Show the (sub)section number in the richt text mode, e.g.: \subesction{Title} would display as '2.1 Title'

  5. Replace image/file without having to delete the old one

It would be great if the dropdown of a file had the option of "replace by another file", or if files with the same name would automatically replace the old one.
    Thanks

  7. Compile latex image files separately

In my projects I use lots of tikz pictures that I create as standalone documents to compile separately. These figures are not updated often, reason why I just compile them as needed. I usually store these in a sub-directory, e.g. <project dir>/img/tikz.

I am aware that Overleaf allows to import PDF files from other projects, but this would force me to create dozens of projects, one for each image.

As far as I understand, there is no way to compile a single file inside a project, or is it? If not, I think this could be a useful feature.

    Best…

  8. Fix: Keep directories open when refreshing Mendeley's .bib file

My .bib file is linked to my Mendeley account. Whenever I refresh the .bib file, all of the directories on the left-hand side of the project interface automatically close, and I'm redirected to my "main.tex" file where the .bib file is included.

I suggest that my folders remain open, and that I am not redirected from the document I'm currently editing at the time of pressing the refresh button. Thanks!

  9. Include a structure sidebar for navigation inside the document

In my opinion this is one of the most basic features since it allows navigation inside ones document. TEXstudio does it by letting you jump directly to the sections and subsections.
This idea is not new: http://support.overleaf.com/forums/137318-feedback/suggestions/4295795-display-structure-panel
But since this suggestion is from 3 years ago, I decided to repost it.

  10. Highlight the current line

Give an option to highlight the current line, i.e. the one where the cursor lies. This should also account for word wrapping, and not highlight the entire block.

  11. Ugly thin black border on the right side of equations, please fix.

Just a small bug, but annoying as hell and needs fixing! Otherwise your rich text editor is really awesome! (Perhaps you can use KaTeX for rendering in the rich text editor?)

    I have a Chromebook with ChromeOS v48.

  12. Allow code to be beautified with latexindent

Latex code is often messy, and having a standard for code formatting makes for much nicer diffs between versions.

There is an existing tool called [latexindent](https://www.ctan.org/pkg/latexindent) which can be used to beautify latex source code.

It would be very useful if there was an option to beautify code when the user clicks a particular button, or even to automatically beautify before each commit.

  13. inform the location of file from other project

Sometimes, I just don't remember which project has the original file corresponding to a link and have to look for it in all projects.

  14. Permanent link to "recompile from scratch"

At present the options to "recompile from scratch" and to "open latex log" can be accessed from the top-right corner only after a "compile error" or "warning" pops up. But if I modify my bibliography or make some other important change, I would like to "recompile from scratch" from the get go.

I would also find a direct link to "open latex log" useful.

P.S. I'm a new user of overleaf, greatly impressed, keep up the good work!

  15. Override ctrl+F for Vivaldi browser

Based on experience, I know that Overleaf will override the hotkey "ctrl+f" for text searching in the editor. However, recently I'm trying to use a new browser "Vivaldi", and it seems like Overleaf doesn't override the hotkey anymore. That means I have to click the "Find" bottom using my mouse. Can you fix this problem?

  16. Implement better offline handling

There have been a couple of times when I've been writing a paragraph only to see the "offline, trying to reconnect" dialogue pop up. In these instances, I have lost the last few lines of writing, which, if unnoticed, can be a disaster for a concise, "every word counts" science paper. My work around is to quickly copy the paragraph I'm working on and paste it back once I get re-connected, but this is hardly an ideal sitation. Google Docs seems to have better offline handling - you can keep working, and when you come online the latest version is…

  17. Drag and drop graphics from computer directly into text

It would be a great function to add graphics to the text by just dragging them from the own computer to the text and dropping them directly to where they should be in the text. This would add them to the sidebar and add them directly into the text by adding \includegraphics at the right location.

  18. Provide a developement roadmap

I see a lot of unfulfilled promises in this forum, things being "worked on" for more than 2 years.

Can you provide a development roadmap with dated milestones? This would help prospective customers to make an informed decisions as well as manage expectations for current subscribers.

  19. Having an embedded image editor with simple tools.

I don't expect something like Gimp or Photoshop, only very simple operations such as resizing, cropping, rotation, etc.

  20. show image size beside its preview.

Overleaf support suggested to me that I should resize big images in order to make compilation faster. It would be easier if that information were shown beside each image preview.
