Comments attributed to individuals (author name in the comment) along with alerting on change would be a powerful combination for peer review! It's a highly useful feature in gdocs....

    • More tools

More tools, like a tool for drawing circuits, a tool for plotting functions, a tool for making matrices and so on.

      • Arrow key functionality for iPad

The arrow keys on a bluetooth keyboard don't work when using writeLatex on iPad. This makes it much harder to use writeLatex for iPad and adding the functionality should make the experience much more pleasant.

        • Allow externalization of pgfplots

          Allow externalization of pgfplots:

          \usepgfplotslibrary{external}
          \tikzexternalize

It allows compiling much faster once the plots have been created.

            • Tidy .tex files.

Sometimes it is necessary to download the source and work offline (e.g. during a flight) and then reupload the source once Internet is accessible again.

I've noticed that the .tex files have really bad formatting (i.e. unnecessary whitespace, overly long sentences etc.). I understand that the writelatex editor will auto wrap words depending on the size of the window, but the underlying actual source is differently formatted. However, it would be very nice if the downloaded .tex file would reflect some sane formatting, such as a textwidth of 80 or so, and if possible get rid of excess whitespace.

              I…

              • Make Command+Right/Left behave as expected on Mac

On a Mac, Command+RightArrow is supposed to move the cursor to the end of the current line. Command+LeftArrow moves to the start of the line. writeLaTeX supports this behavior, but incorrectly.
Currently those commands take the cursor to the end of the fully-wrapped line, so for example pressing Command+RightArrow inside a long paragraph takes you to the end of the whole paragraph, not the end of the current wrapped line within it. This makes keyboard navigation within paragraphs slower, and inconsistent with all desktop apps on the Mac platform. My keyboard habits are continually getting me the wrong results.

                • It would be great if the bibliography is linked to google scholar.

It would be great if the bibliography is linked to, say for instance, google scholar. The idea is that the user doesn't have to maintain his/her own bib file. For instance, if I want to cite the Cooley–Tukey FFT algorithm, I should write `~\cite{cooley1965algorithm}', which automatically get the biblio entry from [here](http://scholar.google.com/scholar.bib?q=info:Z23UrZCJZbgJ:scholar.google.com/&output=citation&scisig=AAGBfm0AAAAAUTqCQvP0tU6RHfX8cmUnKGwyykUCBVa-&scisf=4&hl=en&as_sdt=0,5&as_ylo=1960&as_yhi=1980)

                  • Is there a way of finding out the versions of packages used on writeLaTeX?

I'm experiencing a problem on my local server that I don't get using writeLaTeX. I'm pretty sure it is to do with longtable/tabu, but it would be helpful to know the package versions used on writeLaTeX so that I can quickly identify environment differences.

Thanks for getting in touch. We run TeX Live 2012 on the renderers, but I don’t know of any complete list of versions for all packages in TL 2012. I can tell you that we’re running tabu 2011/02/26 v2.8.

It might also be useful to note that you can upload .sty files to writeLaTeX to test other versions of packages.

                      Hope that helps :)

I know you guys have not done this for financial reasons, but I would happily donate to the project to see new features etc.

                      • Add shortcut keys for page up/down in the preview pane (while editing)

This would prevent the need to use the mouse at all. Just edit away in the source pane, and when you want to scroll the preview pane, press the keyboard shortcuts for "preview pane page up" or "preview pane page down." Bonus points if there are also shortcut keys for "preview pane a few lines up" and "preview pane a few lines down."

                        • Provide an API for integration into web apps

It would be great if I could integrate writeLaTeX into our internal web app, so that our users could use your editor to create, save, share, etc (all the features you support), but within our own environment. Document privacy would be a paramount concern, so some way to keep documents secure (unless they're explicitly shared) would be critical.

Maybe this is possible just using some fancy javascript and iframes... I will be looking into it, since this is the best online LaTeX solution I've seen!

                          • Add toolbar like a Text Editor

The tool would bring more productivity if it had a toolbar like a Text Editor. So, the user wouldn't have to write tex commands by hand.

                            • Implement markdown with pandoc extensions

Pandoc (http://johnmacfarlane.net/pandoc/) provides a way to convert markdown, with LaTeX formulas, into LaTeX; it should be trivial to implement using it. Markdown format would be very convenient for sharing quick ideas and notes among mathematicians, as opposed to full papers.

                              • Add the ability to zoom in on the code and preview independently

Right now, one can change the effective zoom level by changing what proportion is used for code/preview and changing the browser's zoom level. This means that I cannot change the zoom level of one panel (either the code or preview), without changing the zoom level of the other.

This can present a problem, for example, when you don't want the browser completely maximized (the preview become too small and there is no way to make it larger without making the code too big or too small). See http://i.imgur.com/yNiqB.png to see what I mean.

Furthermore, the ability to horizontally scroll when…

                                • Problem in placing the cursor in the desired position in source code

I am using Android in Samsung Galaxy S3. My browser is Google Chrome. I am having difficulty placing the cursor in the place I want. Even when I zoom in, it does not help putting the cursor to the desired location in the TeX source code. Please fix this because writeLaTeX is really awesome. Thanks.

Google docs is an amazing tool and if you can integrate this great tool with google docs. A lot of people will love to use it.

                                    • Add an option for horizontal layout (code window below preview)

I'd like to be able to split the windows horizontally instead of vertically. This would only be helpful if the preview window could be zoomed to fit the width of the document, not the whole page.

                                      • please populate PDF meta data based off of the document data (e.g. \title, \author, affiliation, etc.).

When you export to a PDF, it should auto-populate the PDF meta-data with the information available from the TeX document.

                                        • Editing

                                          1. Some emacs commands work, many don't. This is not a big deal but...

                                          2. I surfed your site for a while looking for a list of editing commands and could not find them. So perhaps make those more obvious.
