  1. web editor is annoying for git users

    I have one guy working with git, and I work with web editor. This guy will get many commits from me because my web editor creates these commit s during my editing. It will be much better if the web editor have a save or commit button so I can manually choose when to commit

  2. Find a way to gain finer control over tabs and indentation

    The rich text looks great but I see its still has a few kinks to work out. Actually I think your system is great in any case (its just fine without the rich text) but LaTex itself could be more functional (e.g. not much support for tabs and successive indentation)

  3. Easy file management

    A file management system to let me move and delete files in and between projects easily.

  4. Cannot use find and search functionality effectively.

    I'm not experienced in regular expressions. I can't seem to conduct a normal search using Ctrl+F. The search bar pops up but finds and highlights nothing and turns up empty. Not in vim-mode in default mode.

  5. set utf8 instead of utf8x as default option for inputenc in “New Paper” template

    tex.SE suggest to avoid using utf8x if it is possible. It is quite misleading for novice to get utf8x as default option when creating “New Paper”. I've just wasted about 15 minutes to figure out what's wrong with fncychap package before noticed that I forget to change utf8x for utf8 in newly created paper and this fixed the problem like a charm.

    So please, set utf8 instead of utf8x as default option for inputenc in “New Paper” template.

    Thanks for the feedback. I agree it would be better to use utf8, but utf8x “just works” with a wider range of accents in European languages. We think it’s the lesser of two evils, but we’re certainly open to other solutions.

  6. Make the preview have fast scrolling on swipe on the iPad

    I use my iPad with the preview in full screen while I work on my other computer with full screen latex, but it's hard to use the preview on the iPad because scrolling is entirely 1:1 with finger motion, so you can't swipe and release to fling the page and scroll quickly like you can with webpages.

  7. make the git server more reliable

    The git pull/push service is excellent, but the git server right now is not really very reliable. From time to time I will get the error message "fatal: remote error: Overleaf server not available. Please try again later." It would be great to improve the reliability of the git server.

  9. Open PDFs in new window

    Small suggestion -- in Chrome, clicking the PDF button loads the current document in PDF.js in the same window. Ctrl-clicking doesn't help.

    Not sure if this is possible (ie, whether it's down to the browser / PDF.js extension), but is there any way you could make it load in a new window instead?

  10. Favorite templates

    I would be nice to mark existing templates (from other authors) as favorites.
    This would allow quickly retrieving a previously viewed template, and to rank them to see which ones people use, etc.

  11. Specific Mendelay Folders

    Rather than import your entire Mendelay Library being able to import specific Mendelay folders for specific Overleaf projects would be useful.

  12. Customize compile frequency

    [Similar to other suggestions but not quite in this form] Continuous preview is generally great but IMO sometimes, too enthusiastic. Presumably triggered by typing delays - perhaps this delay could be user-set as I imagine its optimal setting would depend on user/project etc

    Thanks for the feedback. We’ll look into making that configurable, if there’s enough interest. Watch for improvements to preview speed soon. In the mean time, you can switch to manual preview mode and then hit Ctrl+. to generate a preview whenever you’d like one.

  13. Scrivener Integration

    My workflow involves Scivener for the initial organization/writing/collating and then up to Overleaf when the final structure is more or less in place. At this point in the writing process there is no going back - a rubicon that could be dissolved by being able to import/export with Scrivener.

  14. Clicking a project or clicking the overleaf banner (links) should open in same tab, not a new one.

    Clicking a project or clicking the overleaf banner (links) should open in same tab, not a new one.
    Jumping between projects easily ends in many open and redundant browser tabs

  15. Fix cleveref

    I have found that \cref results in reference undefined where \ref works fine.

  16. Support departments references from Mendeley, as currently only authors are supported

    In Mendeley if you export a citation you get extra {} around the author, see below:

    @article{TheRoyalAcademyofEngineering2012,
    author = {{The Royal Academy of Engineering}},
    title = {{Heat: degrees of comfort?}},
    year = {2012}
    }

    However, within overleaf import bib you don't have the brackets:

    @article{TheRoyalAcademyofEngineering2012,
    title = {Heat: degrees of comfort?},
    year = {2012},
    author = {The Royal Academy of Engineering}
    }

    This causes an issue as your references shows:

    [7] T. R. A. of Engineering, “Heat: degrees of comfort?” 2012.

    When it should show:

    1. The Royal Academy of Engineering. Heat: degrees of comfort? (2012).

  17. Is it possible to use external references between different projects?

    Using the \externaldocument command from the xr-hyper package one can reference other tex documents on a local file system. Would it be somehow possible on Overleaf?

    Unfortunately, we don’t currently support external references with xr, because Overleaf projects are isolated from each other. (They may not even be on the same server.) We’ll see if there’s some other way we can provide this kind of functionality.

  18. German Dictionary insufficient

    The German dictionary is missing a lot of very elementary words and is therefore pretty useless to me. Can't you just include the hunspell-de or the aspell-de dictionary? Or maybe allow the import of .dic files to a project?

    Examples of trivial missing words:

    Schwerpunkt
    Überblick
    Vorschrift
    Baustein
    Datenbank
    Baustelle
    Vorbereitung
    Vorstellung

    Also lots of composite nouns aren't working. like "Teil" and "Bereich" are in the dictionary, but "Teilbereich" is marked as misspelled.

    Thanks a lot
    Max

  19. Add project-wide spell check

    I often work on projects with multiple sub-files.

    It'd be great to have a way of applying spell-check to all of them automatically instead of having to manually go through each: in particular when variable names in inline code gives a lot of false positives :)

    Something like the ability to generate a list of all detected typos in the project would be brilliant.

  20. allow to upload empty files

    I can't upload empty files for some reason. This is convinient to create a bunch of project files stubs locally and upload it to Overleaf.
